There is no ideal age to begin. The most important factor in deciding when to begin lessons is interest: when your child is expressing an interest in lessons, it is the best time. It is, however, very important to discuss what is involved in learning to play an instrument. Many times new students don’t understand that there is an expectation of practice outside of lessons. Having siblings and/or friends talk about what learning an instrument is about is very helpful.
